Photo List "Rogue" Black Hole

【#Tech24H】Astronomers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have detected a rogue black hole known to be the farthest from a galaxy's center ever observed, located about 30,000 lightyears away, apparently having broken free from gravitational bonds after a galaxy merger. Analysis shows that this rogue black hole has a mass roughly 1 million times that of the Sun, while the nearby galactic center may harbor a giant black hole of about 1 billion solar masses. The most likely scenario is that a galaxy roughly the size of the Milky Way merged with another, larger galaxy, causing the black hole of the smaller galaxy to embark on a rogue journey. This discovery may reshape scientists understanding of how massive black holes roam the universe after galaxy mergers. [ By Zhang Liyan | Tang Ruohan ]
