China sees tourism boom during long holiday break

Domestic tourism boomed in China during the first seven days of the combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, with attractions receiving 754 million visitors, China Central Television reported on Friday.

The eight-day break resulting from the overlapping of the two holidays began on Sept 29.

CCTV, citing figures from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said visits to domestic attractions rose 78.9 percent year-on-year in the first seven days of the holiday, with tourism-related revenue up 132.6 percent to more than 668 billion yuan ($91.5 billion).
