New Russian realism painter featured in Beijing

Works by Russian artist Yuri Kaluta are on show at the Art Gallery of the Cultural Palace of Nationalities in Beijing.

The exhibition is part of the activities celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Russia.

Russian painter Yuri Kaluta unveiled the exhibition last weekend. He is a well known contemporary artist. Kaluta graduated from the Repin Academy of Fine Arts, and learned from master A.A. Milnikov.

His graduation work in 1989, an inlayed glass painting titled Peter City won a national award for graduates of art schools. He is now a professor at his Alma Mater and a Honorary Artist of Russia.

Kaluta loves the profound and history filled Chinese culture. He began to exhibit his work in China in 1997, and he won gold at the first Beijing Art Biennale in 2003.

Yuri Kaluta is a representative figure of Russian New Realism. His works are widely collected by museums in Europe, the US and China. In China, the Museum of Fine Arts in Beijing, and the Shanghai Art Museum display his work.

This special show in Beijing has two hundred and fifty paintings the artist created over the past two decades. The exhibition of Yuri Kaluta is free and will conclude next Tuesday.
