The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wednesday called for displaying democracy, practicality, unity and a morale boosting spirit at the upcoming annual session of the country's top political advisory body.

The 12th meeting of the chairman and vice-chairpersons of the 11th CPPCC National Committee heard a report on preparations for the upcoming Second Plenary Session of the 11th CPPCC National Committee, which is scheduled to open March 3.

A statement issued by participants urged more thorough preparation prior to the annual session, which is held amid significant changes in both the domestic and international economic situation.

The meeting was presided over by Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau.

Known as the government's "think tank", the CPPCC's main function is to conduct political consultations, exercise democratic supervision and discuss the handling of state affairs.
