Out of all universities in Asia, Peking University only ranked 12th and Tsinghua University ranked 16th, according to the annual rankings released by "QS World University Rankings in Asia" on May 12.
The University of Hong Kong topped the list again, followed by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the National University of Singapore, which came in second and third.
In 2010, 41 Chinese universities made it into the world's top-200 universities, two more compared with 2009. Peking University, Tsinghua University and Fudan University received a perfect score (100 points) in respects to "academic peer evaluation." They are considered to be the best universities in the professional fields.
Investment in higher education in China has been gradually showing results. However, the lower score in the "teacher-student ratio" category for Chinese universities showed that there are still many aspects which need improvement, such as attracting more international talent and increasing teaching resources. |
