The Chinese New Year of the Year of the Horse is approaching! The horse is a vital symbol of the shared spirit of the Chinese nation and one of the oldest subjects in Chinese painting. Ancient artists depicted horses to express their emotions and used the image of the horse to convey the enduring vitality and dynamic, upward spirit of the individual.
This album, titled Painting Horses, reflects the Qing Dynasty painter Leng Mei’s fondness for horses. The album consists of eight leaves, capturing a variety of traditional poses of horses: grazing, rolling, resting, grooming, scratching, and galloping.
