“Clever-Hand Robot” Achieves Dual-Sided Grasping and Autonomous Crawling

A detachable mechanical hand developed by école Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) not only replicates 33 types of human grasping actions but has also been upgraded into an “advanced hand” with dual-sided grasping and autonomous crawling capabilities. This “clever-hand robot” can handle a maximum payload of 2 kilograms, reliably grasping various everyday objects such as cardboard tube cores, rubber pens, cans, and rubber balls. Moreover, the device can grasp objects beyond conventional size ranges and continuously handle multiple targets, demonstrating significant application potential in fields such as industrial automation, service assistance, and field exploration.
