【#Tech24H】Shanghai Jiao Tong University has achieved a major breakthrough in the field of next-generation computing power optical chips, successfully developing LightGen—the world’s first fully optical computing chip capable of supporting large-scale semantic visual generative models. Instead of relying on electrical assistance to generate outputs, LightGen enables an end-to-end process—from inputting images, understanding semantics, manipulating semantics, to generating entirely new media data—entirely through light, allowing light to "understand" and "cognize" semantics. This also marks the world’s first large-scale fully optical generative AI chip, overcoming widely recognized bottlenecks in the field—including mega-scale optical neuron integration, fully optical dimensional transformation, and ground-truth-free optical chip training algorithms—all on a single chip.
