【#Tech24H】A team led by the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with 35 international research groups, recently completed the genome sequencing of 17 ancient domestic dogs. Integrating previously published ancient genomic data, the team obtained 73 ancient dog genomes, constructing an evolutionary map of domestic dog lineages from East Asia to the Eurasian steppe. This reveals the shared migration history of domestic dogs and humans. The study shows that over the past 10,000 years, domestic dogs and humans have closely migrated together, with different populations in different periods carrying their own dogs across continents via routes such as the Eurasian steppe and the ancient Silk Road. This not only indicates an exceptionally close relationship between dogs and humans but also reflects the interconnectedness of ancient civilizations.
