【#Tech24H】After a year of exposure outside the spacecraft, China's first batch of “lunar soil bricks” developed by a research team recently returned to Earth aboard the Shenzhou XXI spacecraft. The sample unit numbered R5, which completed the exposure experiment, was confirmed to be in good condition after expert inspection. The first batch of “lunar soil bricks” was sent to the Chinese space station via the Tianzhou 8 cargo spacecraft on November 15, 2024, for testing in the space environment. The “lunar soil bricks” were placed in an external exposure platform on the station’s exterior, with the total weight of the bricks and the exposure experimental facility being about 1,000 grams, divided into 74 small pieces, each weighing just over 10 grams. The entire test cycle is three years, with samples returning to Earth annually.
