The "Secret to Efficient Photosynthesis" of Coccolithophores
【Tech 24H】Researchers from the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have, for the first time, purified and resolved the three-dimensional structure of the Photosystem I-Fucoxanthin Chlorophyll a/c-binding Protein (PSI-FCPI) supercomplex from Emiliania huxleyi. This research reveals, at the atomic level for the first time, the unique strategy employed by coccolithophores to adapt to the marine light environment by expanding and optimizing the structure of their photosystems. This constitutes a significant discovery in the study of photosynthetic organism adaptive evolution.
