Chinese Scientists Discover Deepest Deep-Sea Life Community
An international research team led by the Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering under the Chinese Academy of Sciences has discovered the world's deepest and largest chemosynthetic ecosystem in the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench and Aleutian Trench in the northwest Pacific Ocean. At a depth of 9,533 meters, the team found the deepest known chemosynthetic life community and a massive methane reservoir on the abyssal seafloor.
