Beijing, May 19 (Youth.cn) - On May 18, 2025, in Hengnan County, Hunan Province, at the construction site of the Hengyang ±800kV converter station, workers race against time to advance China's pioneering renewable energy transmission artery.
The Ningxia-Hunan ±800 kV Ultra-High Voltage (UHV) DC transmission project is China's first UHV project for transmitting power from "desert, gobi, and barren land" wind-solar power bases to other regions. The project starts from Zhongning County, Zhongwei City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and ends in Hengnan County, Hengyang City, Hunan, with a total transmission line length of 1,634 kilometers. Spanning six provinces and municipalities including Ningxia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hubei, and Hunan, it is also one of the nine key cross-provincial and cross-regional power transmission channels in China. After completion and commissioning, it will transmit over 36 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Hunan annually. Hunan will thus utilize clean energy from the northwest, which can effectively enhance the power supply and security capabilities in the region. Photo/CFP
