Beijing, March 26 (Youth.cn) - On March 25, 2025, in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, wild Père David’s deer (milu deer), a national first-class protected species, have been spotted grazing on fresh shoots in the Tiaozini Wetlands of Dongtai, Yancheng.
As temperatures rise, the vast grasslands of Tiaozini Wetlands are blanketed with tender new growth, drawing herds of these rare deer to feed on the seasonal bounty. Over recent years, strengthened conservation and ecological restoration efforts have revitalized the wetlands’ ecosystem. Thanks to abundant vegetation, ample water sources, and minimal human disturbance, the milu deer population here has surged from just a few dozen to over 1,000 individuals, marking a remarkable recovery for the species.
