Beijing, March 26 (Youth.cn) - On March 25, 2025, in Shanghai, at Shanghai Haitong Terminal, two vessels from COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, the Wenjingkou and COSCO Shengshi, docked simultaneously for intensive loading operations. The newly delivered Wenjingkou, the fleet’s largest new energy vehicle carrier, expands the fleet’s capacity to 16 vessels. Meanwhile, the COSCO Shengshi inaugurated a Mediterranean route, increasing the liner network to five routes. This dual launch of new ships and routes marks COSCO’s entry into a new phase of large-scale new energy vessels and global route expansion.
The Wenjingkou, with an 8,600-car capacity, is Shanghai’s largest car carrier under construction. Equipped with an advanced LNG dual-fuel power system, it completed LNG bunkering from the evening of March 25 to the morning of March 26. The vessel will depart Shanghai carrying over 5,567 vehicles, including passenger cars from Chery, BYD, Geely, Ford, FAW, JAC, and Great Wall, alongside buses and machinery from Yutong, Liugong, and Foton. Its voyage will cover major European ports such as Bristol (UK), Zeebrugge (Belgium), and Bremerhaven (Germany).
The COSCO Shengshi will embark on its maiden Mediterranean voyage with 3,262 vehicles from brands including Chery, BYD, SAIC, Geely, and Liuqi, as well as construction machinery from Zoomlion, Liugong, Yutong, and XCMG. The route will call at Mediterranean ports such as Djen Djen (Algeria), Piraeus (Greece), and Livorno (Italy).
Leveraging COSCO SHIPPING Group’s integrated "shipping + ports + logistics" global network, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers aims to provide secure, stable, efficient, and eco-friendly automotive logistics services. The new Mediterranean route will significantly reduce transit times between China and the Mediterranean, Southeast Europe, and North Africa, enhancing supply chain efficiency and cost-effectiveness for clients.
