Beijing, March 11 (Youth.cn) - On March 9, 2025, in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, in a groundbreaking maritime engineering feat, the west pylon of the Liuwudian Navigation Bridge, a critical component of the cross-strait Xiamen-Jinmen Bridge (Xiamen Section) project, successfully received its permanent 4,225-ton anti-collision steel caisson. Constructed by China Communications Construction Company Second Harbor Engineering Company Ltd. (CCCC-SHEC), this monumental installation marks a technological leap in coastal infrastructure protection.
The dumbbell-shaped double-walled steel caisson, measuring 105.8 meters in length, 47 meters in width, and 11.7 meters in height, represents China's heaviest permanent marine collision-prevention structure. Fabricated from high-strength marine-grade steel with modular construction techniques, its multi-layered defense system can withstand equivalent impact forces , extending the bridge's service life through optimized stress distribution.
The engineering team deployed the "Erhang Zhuoyue" floating crane with 5,500-ton lifting capacity for this precision offshore engineering maneuver. Advanced BIM-guided positioning systems enabled single-lift installation within a 3-hour tidal window, reducing traditional assembly phases while achieving alignment accuracy. Photo/CFP
