Photo List Fish-shaped lanterns light up the Lantern Festival in Zhejiang

Beijing, February 14 (Youth.cn) - On February 12, 2025, the 15th day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar, in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, the colorful fish-shaped lanterns of Beipo in Suixi County gather in the streets and alleys, forming brilliant light bands.

The Beipo Fish Dance is a time-honored folk activity that originated during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing dynasty and has a history of over 300 years. Every Lantern Festival, Beipo in Suixi County holds the parade, using the fish-shaped lanterns to symbolize the fish swimming with water, with the aim of praying for favorable weather and abundant harvests every year. In 2018, the Beipo Fish Dance was included in the seventh batch of representative lists of intangible cultural heritage of Guangdong Province. Photo/CFP
