Recently, in Barkhor Street, located in Lhasa, Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, numerous young people have been seen walking around in traditional Tibetan attire. Visiting Lhasa and taking a series of Tibetan costume photographs in Barkhor Street and the Potala Palace Square has nearly become a "must-do" activity for young travelers to Tibet in recent years. On social media platforms, the hashtag "Tibetan costume photo" has garnered 370 million views, with many sharing their photo-taking experiences for internet users to admire and discuss.
Barkhor Street, with a history dating back over 1,300 years, now sees tourists clad in Tibetan costumes and adorned with intricate makeup weaving through ancient structures and bustling crowds. Under the guidance of photographers, they strike various poses, eager to capture the most authentic and cinematic tourism experience possible.
To enhance the tourist experience, provide better guidance, and help visitors gain knowledge and appreciation of Tibetan culture, the first travel photography industry association dedicated to Tibetan costume experiences was officially established in July 2023 in Barkhor Street, Chengguan District, Lhasa. This initiative allows tourists to immerse themselves in Tibetan culture and history, ensuring a serene and memorable travel photography experience.
