Photo List Lunar Robot Dogs to Mine and Construct Lunar Habitats

【#Tech24H】The lunar environment is extremely harsh: low gravity, intense cosmic radiation, drastic day-night temperature differences, and pervasive lunar regolith, all of which render long-duration human surface operations unfeasible. China’s aerospace team has put forward a 2035 lunar base blueprint, under which quadruped robot dogs will perform mining, construction, patrol inspection and even companion support missions alongside astronauts. Compared with wheeled lunar rovers, quadruped robots boast superior mobility across rough terrain such as crater-strewn rubble fields and lava tubes. Their strong adaptability to complex landscapes facilitates efficient division of labor between humans and robots. Per the roadmap, an initial lunar base will be built by 2035, followed by the completion of expanded large-scale lunar surface infrastructure by 2045. This concept is still in the theoretical planning phase; prototypes must pass extensive simulated testing against radiation, extreme thermal conditions and other harsh lunar environments. Multiple key technical challenges still need to be resolved prior to their actual deployment on the Moon. [ By Zhang Liyan ]
