【Tech 24H】According to Tom's Hardware, the Terafab chip factory, jointly constructed by SpaceX and Tesla, recently broke ground in Grimes County, Texas. Described by Musk as "the largest and most valuable single building in the world," the chip manufacturing facility is planned to cover a floor area exceeding 100 million square feet (approximately 9.3 million square meters). Its initial investment stands at $168 billion, and the total long-term investment may reach as high as $1190 billion. While a 100-million-square-foot space may seem excessively large for chip production, Terafab is not a traditional standalone wafer fab. Under the plan, it will operate as a vertically integrated chip manufacturing hub, integrating the full industrial chain including advanced logic chip fabrication, DRAM memory production, lithography, advanced packaging and testing within one campus. [ By Zhang Liyan ]
