On July 29, the first C919 high-altitude variant completed its maiden flight at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. China imposes stringent operating standards for highaltitude airports, where reduced air density degrades aircraft lift and engine performance, making it impossible for standard airliners to operate fully loaded and efficiently at such elevations. In the past, domestic highaltitude trunk routes have relied heavily on imported models, and developing plateauspecific modifications is a common industry practice. Based on the baseline C919, the high-altitude variant features a shortened fuselage, adjusted seating and emergency exits to reduce weight and improve thrusttoweight ratio, alongside upgrades to multiple systems including engines, oxygen supply, cabin pressurization, and navigation. With BeiDou integration, it enables precise takeoff and landing in mountainous terrain. The entire aircraft has undergone extensive system matching and validation testing.
