【#Tech24H】At 00:52 local time on May 19, the Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer (SMILE), a joint ChinaEurope mission, was successfully launched aboard a VegaC rocket from the the space launch site in Kourou, French Guiana. From space, it will observe the interaction between Earth’s magnetic field and the solar wind, making precise space weather forecasting possible. After nearly a decade of development, SMILE is China’s first science satellite to be fully integrated and tested in Europe. Weighing about 2,250 kilograms and carrying four scientific payloads, it employs novel Xray imaging technology to achieve the first panoramic observation of the solar windmagnetosphere interaction process.
