Lunar Magnetic Anomalies Possibly Caused by Impacts

【#Tech24H】Recently, Chinese scientists have, for the first time, identified micrometer-sized crystals of hematite and maghemite in lunar soil samples brought back by the Chang'e 6 mission from the moon's far side formed by major impact events. This reveals a novel oxidation process on the moon and provides direct sample evidence supporting the impact origin theory for the magnetic anomalies surrounding the South Pole-Aitken Basin. These findings offer a crucial basis for subsequent lunar scientific research, deepening our understanding of the Moon's evolutionary history.
