New Coating Turns Fruits into "Smart Freshness Pods"
Recently, Shaanxi Normal University successfully developed an edible protein-based fruit preservation coating. It can extend the shelf life of whole fruits at room temperature by 2–5 times, and even keep fresh-cut fruits preserved for up to 10 days under refrigeration. Remarkably, the coating is made entirely of natural, edible materials and can be safely broken down in the human body. The findings were published in Nature Communications.
