China’s first self-developed 7-function robotic arm for unmanned remotely operated vehicles in deepwater oil and gas operations has been successfully deployed in the Pearl River Mouth Basin. Weighing only 60kg (about 35% lighter than international counterparts), the robotic arm performs seven core functions: extending, retracting, swinging, rotating, spreading, gripping, and clamping. Its cost is around 40% lower than imported equivalents, with mass production expected to significantly reduce procurement and maintenance expenses. Future applications include deepwater energy extraction, seabed mining, and offshore wind turbine installation.
