On June 18, groundbreaking research by Chinese scientists on a 146,000-year-old Harbin ancient human skull fossil and its dental calculus was published in both Science and Cell, two world-leading academic journals.
Jointly conducted by the research team of Researcher Fu Qiaomei from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the team of Professor Ji Qiang from Hebei GEO University, the study employed independently developed paleoprotein analysis systems and innovative ancient DNA techniques. For the first time, it linked an almost complete ancient human skull to the enigmatic Denisovans, thereby solving the long-standing mystery of their physical appearance.
