Beijing, April 17 (Youth.cn) - On April 14, 2025, in Tongzhou Bay High-End Equipment Port Industrial Park, Nantong, Jiangsu Province, the Zhanjiang Bay 1, the world’s first floating dynamic positioning full-sea-area aquaculture work vessel, has docked at the port.
On March 28, the groundbreaking floating dynamic positioning aquaculture platform, also named Zhanjiang Bay 1, was launched in Tongzhou Bay Demonstration Zone. This “intelligent marine aquaculture base” boasts an aquaculture capacity of 80,000 cubic meters and an annual output of 2,000 metric tons of premium fish, marking China’s entry into a new era of intelligent deep-sea industrialized aquaculture.
As the world’s first floating dynamic positioning aquaculture platform, Zhanjiang Bay 1 integrates semi-submerged marine farming, autonomous typhoon-avoidance navigation, green energy supply, and intelligent control systems. With a total length of 154 meters, a beam of 44 meters, a depth of 24.25 meters, and a maximum aquaculture draft of 20 meters, its 80,000-cubic-meter aquaculture volume equals the water capacity of 32 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Designed to operate across all maritime zones, it maximizes ocean space utilization for deep-sea farming. Upon deployment, it will conduct fully automated intelligent aquaculture trials, serving as a significant breakthrough in advancing aquaculture into the open ocean. Photo/CFP
