Beijing, January 24 (Youth.cn) - On January 23, 2025, laboratorians are expanding the indoor planting of Haematococcus pluvialis, a kind of green algae. Currently, this green alga is the richest natural source of astaxanthin. Located in the southwest China’s Pingbian County, Honghe Hani Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, the largest natural astaxanthin production base of the world takes up 595.58 mu (around 397 thousand square kilometers), and has already finished current planned construction. The base, once fully constructed, will produce 200 tons green algae powers, 65 tons astaxanthin oils, as well as 200 tons micro-capsule astaxanthin, in total of 1.2 billion yuan worth of product.
