Beijing, January 8 (Youth.cn) - The repair of the damaged top of the Yinchuan Chengtian Temple Pagoda has already begun on January 7, 2025. Affected by the earthquakes of Yongning and Jinfeng, the top of the pagoda was damaged and tilted.
The Pagoda of the Chengtian Temple, with a height of 64.5 meters, is an 11-story octagonal tower-like brick pagoda located in the west side of the Jinning South Street in Xinqing District, Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The pagoda began its construction in 1050, the first year of the Tianyou Chuisheng Period of the Yizong Reign in the Western Xia Dynasty. Temple halls were added during the early Ming Dynasty, until an earthquake destroyed the temple and the pagoda in the thrid year of the Qianlong Reign of the Qing Dynasty. In the 25th year of the Jiaqing Reign of the Qing Dynasty, the pagoda was rebuilt in its original style of the West Xia Dynasty. The pagoda, as the only ancient pagoda of the Western Xia Dynasty with a distinct construction record in China, became a key cultural and historical site under the national protection in 2006.
