Beijing, March 12 (Youth.cn) - On March 10th, 2024, in Nanwan Village, Yingzhou Town, Lingshui County, Hainan Province, the wild macaques on Nanwan Monkey Island were seen frolicking and playing, exuding an adorable charm that endeared them to all.
Nanwan Monkey Island is located on the Nanwan Peninsula which is about 14 kilometers south of Lingshui County, Hainan Province and surrounded by the sea on three sides. It is the only island-type macaque nature reserve in both China and the world. The island is home to nearly 400 species of tropical plants and close to a hundred animal species. With its pristine natural environment and over 2,500 macaques which are classified as a national second-class protected species, the island has earned the affectionate nickname "Monkey Island".
