
【#Tech24H】An international team of scientists, leveraging the European Space Agency’s Euclid space telescope, has discovered 31 ancient quasars in a single sweep. Among them, 14 have redshifts reaching or exceeding 7, meaning their emitted light dates back to when the universe was about 750 million years old or even earlier. Two of them break the previous record for the earliest quasars ever observed, with their light originating from roughly 670 million years after the Big Bang. This discovery provides crucial clues for understanding how supermassive black holes in the early universe formed and grew rapidly. It is reported that all 31 quasars come from the Euclid wide-field survey data, and this survey is planned to cover more than one-third of the entire sky in the future.
