【#Tech24H】The discovery and application of a new lunar mineral, Chang’eite-(Ce,Mg), has been officially approved, making it the eleventh new lunar mineral discovered by humankind. Chang’eite-(Ce,Mg) is colorless and transparent, with a vitreous luster, brittle texture, and exhibits clear fluorescence. Its grain size ranges from about 3 to 25 micrometers, generally smaller than 10 micrometers, roughly 1/25 the diameter of a human hair. Chang’eite-(Ce,Mg) was found in the first lunar meteorite to fall within China's territory. The mineral’s fluorescence effect gives it promising potential applications in LED luminescent materials. Its rare earth ratio, magnesium and iron content, and crystal structure variations provide important references for artificial synthesis. [ By Zhang Liyan | Tang Ruohan ]
