【#Tech24H】Elon Musk announced that the “Colossus 2” supercomputer, which powers the AI chatbot Grok, has officially entered operation. This is the world’s first training cluster to achieve gigawatt-scale capacity, marking a new stage in AI infrastructure in terms of energy and computing power scale. According to Musk’s plans, Colossus 2 will be upgraded to 1.5 GW in April this year, with the final total installed capacity expected to reach 2 GW. This scale of electricity consumption is already comparable to that of most major cities in the United States. To ensure stable operation, xAI has also equipped the system with 150 MW of Tesla Megapack batteries as backup power to handle outages or peak electricity usage.
