【#Tech24H】Recently, the world’s first methanol dual-fuel intelligent very large crude carrier (VLCC), the “New Explorer”, was delivered ahead of schedule. This vessel is the eighth-generation VLCC design independently developed by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC). It employs domestically produced methanol dual-fuel main engines and a methanol fuel supply system. Compared to using conventional fuel oil, it can reduce emissions of Carbon Dioxide by up to 92%, sulfur oxide emissions by 99%, and particulate matter by 90%. The ship is equipped with domestically developed intelligent systems, including a smart ship-based platform, an intelligent cargo control system, and an intelligent engine room operation and maintenance system, making vessel operations smarter, more economical, efficient, and safer.
