Beijing, May 26 (Youth.cn) - On May 25, 2025, the world’s first 9,300-car methanol dual-fuel-powered roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel was successfully launched in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. Built by China Merchants Industry Group for China Merchants Energy Shipping, this groundbreaking ship measures 219.9 meters in length, 37.7 meters in width, and 14.9 meters in depth, with a draft of 10.2 meters, and a designed speed of 19 knots. Equipped with a methanol dual-fuel propulsion system - including main and auxiliary engines, boilers, and fuel supply units - it meets the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emission standards. The vessel represents a major leap in green, intelligent shipbuilding and provides an innovative model for low-carbon transformation in global automotive shipping. After further testing and sea trials, it is slated for delivery in late 2025. Photo/CFP
