Beijing, May 8 (Youth.cn) - On May 2, 2025, over 30 critically endangered blue-crowned laughingthrushes, a national first-class protected species in China, have begun nesting and breeding in Caomen Village, Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province. Known as the most stable habitat for the species, Caomen Village has seen their numbers steadily increase year after year.
These rare birds, distinguished by their striking blue crowns and vibrant calls, return to Wuyuan - dubbed the “Hometown of the Blue-crowned Laughingthrush” - annually from late April to mid-August to reproduce. The county now hosts eight breeding sites, where populations remain stable and show signs of recovery.
Conservationists emphasize the urgency of collaborative efforts to safeguard the species, including emergency conservation measures, establishing a genetic resource bank, developing breeding bases for population recovery, and restoring degraded habitats. Photo/CFP
