Photo List Rooftop tea garden at primary school yields Longjing tea annually

Beijing, March 18 (Youth.cn) At Maiyuqiao Primary Schools Wenhui Campus, an 800-square-meter rooftop tea garden has become a living classroom where students observe spring farming and enjoy nature between classes. "Two leaves and a bud - perfect!" Though harvest season has yet to begin, the tender sprouts on the tea bushes hardly escape the keen eyes of young learners. Wang Yichan, the schools moral education teacher, explains that the 2,000 Longjing No.43 tea plants on the rooftop were planted nearly five years ago, with student-led harvesting set to start next week. Despite its modest size, the garden produced 60 jin (one jin equals 500 grams) of fresh tea leaves in 2024, yielding 13 jin of finished Longjing tea after roasting.

Each year, the school shares its homegrown tea with staff and students, offering everyone a taste of the vibrant, refreshing flavor of authentic Longjing green tea.
