Beijing, February 26 (Youth.cn) - On February 25, 2025, China has marked a milestone in green maritime technology with the official launch of the world's most powerful methanol-dual fuel marine engine in Shanghai City, independently developed and boasting full intellectual property rights. With a maximum output of 64,500 kW and a colossal weight of 1,953 tons, this engine - dubbed the "behemoth" of marine engines - utilizes industrial-grade methanol as its primary fuel. The engine employs an advanced digitally intelligent control system, achieving over 95% methanol substitution for traditional diesel and reducing CO2 emissions by more than 7.5%. These breakthroughs position it as a pivotal solution for the shipping industry's green transition, with significant market potential driven by global decarbonization mandates . The engine will soon enter commercial service, powering a 16,000-TEU methanol-dual fuel container ship, marking its transition from innovation to real-world application. Photo/CFP
