Beijing, February 11 (Youth.cn) - On February 9, 2025, the 12th day of the first month of the traditional Chinese calendar, the Shehuo folk performance unfolds in Lusha'er Town, Huangzhong District, Xining City, Qinghai Province - a region renowned as "the homeland of Chinese folk culture and art (stilt walking)." From makeup preparations starting at 3 a.m. to the dawn commencement of the show, performers spanning three generations - elders, middle-aged, and youth - bubble with excitement. Originating from the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, Lusha'er stilt walking, hailed as "aerial dance," remains the crown jewel of the local Shehuo performances. This year's event featured 60 stilt performers, predominantly from the post-2000 generation, who portray characters from The Generals of the Yang Family and Journey to the West, moving rhythmically to drumbeats on their stilts.
