Beijing, February 8 (Youth.cn) - On February 7, 2025, China National Offshore Oil Cooperation (CNOOC) announced that the first phase development of the 100 million-ton-class Bozhong 26-6 oilfield project in the Bohai Sea has been successfully put into production, marking the official entry of the world's largest metamorphic rock buried hill oilfield into the production stage, which is of great significance for ensuring national energy security.

The Bozhong 26-6 oilfield is located in the central Bohai Sea, about 170 kilometers away from the Tianjin City, with an average water depth of about 20 meters. The construction of the oilfield is divided into two development projects, Phase I and Phase II. The currently put-into-production Phase I development project mainly includes the construction of a new central processing platform and an unmanned wellhead platform.

Liu Jingliang, the director of the Bozhong 26-6 oilfield of CNOOC Tianjin Branch, introduces that the Phase I development project of the Bozhong 26-6 oilfield plans to put 33 development wells into production, with an expected peak daily production of over 3,500 cubic meters of oil and gas equivalent.

Since its discovery in 2022, the Bozhong 26-6 oilfield has cumulatively proven geological reserves of over 150 million tons of oil and gas. Estimated using the normal recovery ratio, it can produce over 20 million tons of crude oil and over 11 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Photo/CFP
