Beijing, December 12 (Youth.cn) - As one of key projects of 13th Five-Year Plan, Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Passage is the first cross-sea passage project after the launch of “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”. 31 kilometers’ long, among which 14 kilometers above the sea, the Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Passage was built from Taishan to Zhuhai. Gaolan Port Bridge and Huangmaohai Bridge are the two main cross-sea bridges for this construction project. Huangmaohai Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with three towers. Its span is the largest in the world for this type of bridge. Built in 2020, a pilot operation was achieved on December 11th 2024. Being an important part of cross-sea passages’ cluster, it reduce the Taishan-Zhuhai travel time from over one hour to about 30 minutes. It enriches the traffic network of the region and empowers the construction of a huge traffic hub of the region. By facilitating the connection between different places in the Greater Bay Area, the construction of the cross-sea passage gives better access of the industrial chain, supply chain, logistic chain, talent chain and value chain of Shenzhen and Hong Kong to the west bank of the Pearl River's estuary. The concentration of high-end industries on the west bank of the Pearl River's estuary helps the formation of a connected economic zone in the Greater Bay Area. A world-level traffic hub will be formed with the improvement of coordinated development in the Greater Bay Area. Photo shows the construction history of the cross-sea passage. Photo/VCG
