Beijing, September 29 (Youth.cn) - 75 black-awning boats rowed down the Zhedong Canal on September 27th during the “Strive for glory on the canal” Cup marathon of black-awning boats. 75 shipowners set out from the East Lake Scenic Spot in Shaoxing City and set for the final spot at Bazi Bridge. As a unique vehicle in Shaoxing City, black-awning boat has a long history and is known as “bus on water”. The final spot of the competition, the Bazi Bridge was built in the Southern Song Dynasty and is known as “ancient overpass”. The Zhedong Canal, where the competition took place, is a main part of China canal system. The competition is an activity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of PRC and the 10th anniversary of its entitled into the World Heritage List. It aims to tell more tourists historical cultural connotations and folk customs of the water town in Shaoxing City. Photo/VCG
