DHAKA, July 19 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank organized an international conference here on Wednesday, focusing on the future development of Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.

The conference, titled "Towards Great Dhaka: International Conference on Development Options for Dhaka Towards 2035," aimed at rebuilding Bangladesh's capital into a dynamic and attractive urban agglomeration.

Dhaka will have more than 30 million inhabitants by 2030, the World Bank said in a statement.

Policy makers, senior government officials, urban planners, civil society representatives and private sector leaders from home and abroad, among others, joined the conference.

With 36 percent of the country's urban population living in Greater Dhaka, the World Bank said the capital of Bangladesh has become one of the world's most densely populated cities.

Bangladesh must manage Dhaka's urban growth, the bank said, suggesting taking full advantage of East Dhaka where there is ample availability of land near the core of the city and increasing the city's economic opportunities and livability.

With proper planning and implementation, East Dhaka can become a vibrant pole of activities with higher value added, while helping ease density and congestion in the rest of the city.
