Thirty years have passed since the debut of the DPRK opera "The Flower Girl". It's been staged more than 1,300 times in the place where it first was conceived and the world over. Crossing the international border, the opera opened in Beijing, Tuesday night. It was the first stop of its China tour.

The story of an oppressed flower girl emerges in a narrative that contends sympathy alone can't save the poor - as long as exploitation and oppression prevail. These are embers that kindle the fires of revolution, to overthrow oppression, touching off the fight to assure that the nation stands as a free and independent people.

Kim Il-sung, late leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, took part in creating the original production.

The visiting Pibada Opera Troupe has made repeated appearances on the Chinese stage since it was established in 1971. Many of its musicians and actors of the 180-person crew, have gained DPRK honors as "People's Artists".

The new series of performances has made major changes in stage sets, lighting and acoustic facilities.

The China tour will carry on to Shenzhen, Wuhan, Shanghai among 14 cities.
