Slumdog Millionaire, the runaway star of this week's Academy Awards, will hit mainland theaters around late March, according to EDKO Films and the China Film Group Corporation.
The film swept the Oscars with eights wins from its 10 nominations - it had already picked up seven BAFTAs in Britain - and is the only Oscar-nominated film to be screened in the mainland.
It tells the story of a boy from the slums of Mumbai who wins the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire thanks to his dramatic life experiences.
China only imports 20 foreign films a year to protect the domestic industry. The China Film Group Corporation is the country's largest film company and the sole importer of foreign films. |
