Chinese Vice Premier urges united efforts for world economic recovery

Vice Premier Li Keqiang has addressed the World Economic Forum in Davos. He called on the international community to work together to create a better future and strengthen the world's economic recovery.

Addressing the forum, Li Keqiang highlighted the Chinese government's measures and achievements in tackling the global financial crisis. He said the crisis did not change the fundamentals and long-term positive trend of China's economic development.

Li also called on the international community to unite, saying recovery was still weak.

Vice Premier Li Keqiang said, "Continued global cooperation is needed to avoid dangers and to reduce risks in the course of the recovery. The international community should increase coordination and cooperation in macro-economic policies. The world should identify the right direction and priorities of economic policies and withdraw stimulus policies at the right time in order to bring about a full recovery as soon as possible."

Li Keqiang also reiterated that China is fully committed to its peaceful development.

First, All countries should continue to work together to fight the crisis.

Second, promoting more open markets and opposing any forms of economic protectionism.

Third, promoting balanced development, increasing south-south and south-north cooperation.

Forth, jointly tackling major challenges, with every country taking responsibility for international affairs.

Last, improving the structure of global governance, increasing efforts from developing countries and respecting different paths of development.

Later, Li Keqiang took questions on how to boost domestic demand.

During the five-day gathering, around 2,500 delegates from more than 90 countries and regions will participate in the forum, representing business, government, civil society, academia and the media.
