Experts from the Haiti government and the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah) on Sunday began investigating the causes of Friday's air accident that killed 11.

Early reports indicate that the victims include six Uruguayans, two of them colonels, and five Jordanians, all peacekeeping UN troops known as "blue helmets", who were carrying out a reconnaissance mission on the Haiti-Dominican Republic border.

The Casa 22 aircraft lost contact with air controllers as it was flying over an area called Ganthier and then crashed into a mountain.

Minustah said that the bodies of the 11 dead were taken to the capital, Port au Prince, from where they will be repatriated.

The six Uruguayans are identified pilot Jose Larrosa Piriz, co-pilot Santiago Hernandez, operator Jose Pastor, mechanic Enrique Montiel, engineer Nestor Morales and operator Yiyi Medina.

Minustah is made up of 9,123 officers: 7,057 soldiers and 2,066police. Alongside security forces there are 1,221 Haitian administrators and 205 United Nations volunteers performing administrative duties.

Nations represented among Minustah staff including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Spain, France, Italy, Canada and the United States.
