A senior Palestinian official said on Monday that no meeting was decided to be held soon between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu.

Yasser Abed Rabbo, secretary general of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) executive committee said in a press statement that there would not be a meeting between Abbas and Netanyahu in New York on September 23.

The United Nations General Assembly will convene in New York in September. Abbas and Netanyahu and other leaders will attend the UN assembly and give speeches.

Bilateral and multilateral talks are usually held on the sideline of the general assembly between the world's leaders and diplomats.

"The United States has not yet presented any proposal over the possibility of holding a meeting between President Abu Mazen and Netanyahu on the sideline of the UN General Assembly," said Abed Rabbo.

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and president Abbas ruled out holding any meeting with Netanyahu or any renewal of the peace talks unless Israeli authorities announce a total freeze of settlement activities in the West Bank.

"The Palestinian leadership has not heard about a temporary or permanent cessation of settlement. We are waiting for George Mitchell's visit to the region to hear from him what he had discussed with the Israeli leaders," said Abed Rabbo.

Earlier on Monday, Fatah central committee member Nabil Shaath told reporters in Ramallah that President Abbas "would reject any US invitation to resume the peace talks with Israel before it freezes all settlement activities."
