This photo, taken on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, shows a set of coins issued by the People's Bank of China to commemorate the Shanghai World Expo.

China's central bank, the People's Bank of China, issued a set of gold and silver coins on Wednesday to hail the upcoming Shanghai World Expo.

The set of coins includes a gold coin with a diameter of 23 millimetres and two silver ones each with a diameter of 40 millimetres.

Every gold coin contains a third of an ounce of gold while each silver one contains an ounce of silver.

The coins carry on their front sides the Shanghai Expo's logo and the image of the earth on their reverse sides, symbolizing the world Expo's role in promoting communication and cooperation among different nations.

The coins are available at more than 100 company shops across the country.

The China Gold Coin Incorporation will distribute the coins through its branches, direct selling centres and licensed retail distributors to buyers from both home and abroad.
