Vampire romance "Twilight" and Oscar winner "Slumdog Millionaire" are the top nominees heading into the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, which are scheduled to be presented Sunday evening in Los Angeles.

"Twilight" leads the pack with seven nominations, including best movie and best female performance for actress Kristen Stewart.Robert Pattinson, the film's leading actor, didn't earn a nomination for best male performance, but he was nominated for breakthrough performance by an actor.

"Slumdog Millionaire," which won eight Academy Awards earlier this year, has six MTV nominations, including best movie and breakthrough performances by actor Dev Patel and actress Freida Pinto.

The pop-culture-fueled MTV Movie Awards ceremony, which is to be held at the Gibson Amphitheatre, is considered a campy send-up of Hollywood awards shows, including off-the-wall categories such as best fight, best villain and best kiss.

New categories for this year's MTV awards show are best song from a movie and "best WTF moment," honoring the year's most outrageous film scenes.

Among the nominees in the "WTF" category are Ben Stiller for taking a bite out of a decapitated head in "Tropic Thunder" and Amy Poehler for urinating in a sink in "Baby Mama."

The nominees were chosen by an online voting system, which is also be used to choose the winners. Online voting ended Wednesday for most categories, but voting will continue through the awards show for the best movie category.

In addition to "Twilight" and "Slumdog," nominees for best movie are "The Dark Knight," "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" and "Iron Man."
